As professional educators we understand that academic success is multi-dimensional - and while the academics are clearly important, we have learned that a client's psychological confidence level may be profoundly affected by an academic deficiency. Recognizing this, our highly experienced tutoring staff takes steps to build confidence as we provide tutoring assistance and while working on the particular skill - be it in math tutoring, writing tutoring, language tutoring, writing tutoring or SAT™ or ACT© preparation - all tutoring assistance -- it's "just like being there"!

Utilizing the American Tutors Online™ approach, our team becomes the student's coach, the "expert", and often the parent's learning consultant - all online. And the experienced tutors seek to establish a bond with the student to instill trust and confidence.

A core value is embodied in our motto - "Just Like Being There" which is our way of saying that we endeavor to replicate to the extent possible an in-person tutoring experience. Through the use of the 21st Century technology it's surprising how much can be accomplished!

Another core value is being charitable - we often conduct tutoring at a significant discount for economically challenged students who would not have the chance to utilize our services. The pictures on this page of college bound students being readied for the ACT test in Guadalupe Center in Southern Florida is a current example.

Finally, we believe in being "green" and not creating a carbon footprint. In our online world, energy utilization and materials such as paper are kept to a minimum. We promote the judicious use our earth's resources - no more gas utilization while you or the tutor is stuck in traffic on the way to the learning center!

ABOUT US - HISTORY AND BACKGROUNDS OF PRINCIPALS

American Tutors Online™ was founded as an extension of a successful five year old tutoring company - A+ Skills Tutoring™ in Naples, FL. Several families who had been visiting Naples on vacation and utilized our services asked if we could provide services in their home areas - alas the idea of an online tutoring company was born! To accomplish our goal of offering the same kind of high quality experience that we strive to offer in Naples, we required some first class and user friendly technology. It turned out that A+ Conferencing, a boutique teleconferencing company in Houston, TX, had just the solutions and so a joint venture was created to form American Tutors Online™.

A+ Skills Tutoring™ was founded in 2004 by Debbie Mandell, who prior to moving to Naples had a thirty year teaching career in Greenwich, Connecticut. During her multi-faceted educational career, she was a classroom teacher, reading specialist and an administrator at the elementary and middle school levels. Debbie holds three academic degrees from Connecticut State Universities including a Master of Science Degree in Reading and a Sixth Year Degree in Administration and Supervision. Debbie has been assisted by her husband Bob who has been in the telecommunications and teleservices industries. He graduated from The Pennsylvania State University with an MS in Business and from Pace University with a BBA, also in Business.

A+ Conferencing, Inc., our technology and joint venture partner was founded by Mike Burns and Robin Fisher, who both have had long careers in the telecommunications and teleconferencing fields. Before founding his teleconferencing companies, Mike was an executive at AT&T and Southwestern Bell. Mike graduated from Texas A&M University with a B.S. in Psychology and a Masters in Management. Robin also was an executive at Southwestern Bell and AT&T, before helping found TeleSystems Marketing, Conference Pros International and A+ Conferencing. Robin graduated with a BA in Communications from Southern Methodist University.

As in Naples, American Tutors Online™ has retained the services of accomplished educators and professionals who share a dedication to high quality tutoring and the success of the students whom they tutor. All tutors are degreed, often with multi-degrees and have Professional Certifications and considerable teaching and tutoring experience. Tutors have degrees from universities such as Stanford University, Michigan State University, City College of New York, SUNY Buffalo, Boston College, San Diego State University, University of Michigan, Auburn University, Ohio University, Southern Oregon University, and Southern Connecticut University, among others.

American Tutors Online™ is active with various community charitable and professional groups including: The National Education Association, Education Industry Association, National Tutoring Association, and The Florida Parent-Educators Association. In addition, the principals are frequent donors to charities associated with children.
