Here's a Case Study - This could be you!

Parent

My daughter was an incoming college freshman and one of her classes was English, where she had to write several papers. In the English class, on her first paper, she made a D, which threw her into a tailspin. I told her to go to her professor and ask for assistance and try to find out what the professor was looking for. However, this didn't seem to work. After speaking with a few local people, I went online and searched for tutoring companies and I found American Tutors Online.

After a consulting telephone call with Debbie Mandell, the Education Director, my daughter was introduced to Jim, an experienced writing tutor. They communicated online using a webcam and faxing the papers back and forth. He had a very understanding and sympathetic attitude when working with my daughter and built her confidence up teaching her the essentials of writing good papers. Jim did not do any of the writing; rather he gave her ideas and reviewed her writing works. He kept me in the loop by giving me a short synopsis of their sessions so I felt they were making progress. He coached her on how to become a better writer and to put more of her emotions and experiences into her writing. I would recommend them for any student struggling with homework or writing papers. We will be using them many times throughout her college career.

College Student

During the fall semester of 2008, I was an incoming freshman at Rollins College in Winter Park, Florida. One of my classes was freshman English, where I had to write several papers for the class. On my first paper, I chose my topic and followed all of the advice from my teacher. Not thinking that I had a problem, I wrote the paper on my own, without any coaching or assistance from any third parties just like I did in high school. When I received my graded paperback I was shocked since I had received a D on the paper.

Now, I was totally disappointed and frustrated and I suffered a total collapse in my self confidence. I was confused as to what to do next. After several help sessions with my professor, I didn't seem to be getting anywhere with my progress. After conferring with my parents, I signed up with American Tutors Online for some special assistance on how to write effective papers.

I am a Junior at Mt. Holyoke College in Massachusetts, majoring in Russian and Math. During the spring semester of 2008, I was taking an exceptionally difficult math class and needed help.
